Brother Sewing Machine Reviews and Comparisons

Have you decided on a Brother Sewing Machine?

The Brother sewing machine company is one of the leading manufacturers of home sewing machines, which makes them a popular choice for new and experienced users. If you already know you would like to purchase a Brother sewing machine, then my Brother sewing machine reviews should help you decide on the best sewing machine for your child. On this page, I review and compare the 5 top-selling Brother sewing machines that sell on Amazon for less than $170 as of July 2017.

The Brother sewing machines listed here include three basic mechanical machines and two computerized ones. All of them are suitable for beginners because of their simple features and functionality. All of them have some accessories included. There is one machine listed on this page that is not on the main comparison chart. It is the Brother XR3774. The only reason I left it off the main comparison chart was to give room to similar models by Janome and Singer. Truth be told however, I believe the Brother sewing machine company offers more features on their entry level machines at better prices than their competitors.

The Brother XM1010 is the most basic machine out of the 5 Brother sewing machines I compare and review, and at the time of writing, it is the lowest priced. Even so, this machine has the quality features your child needs to make everyday sewing and mending fun. Winding the bobbin with the automatic bobbin winding system is easy and selecting stitches is as simple as turning the dial. This machine also has a “jam-resistant quick-set” drop-in bobbin system and the ability to sew blind hems.

The Brother XM2701 also has a drop-in bobbin system but is a step up from the Brother XM1010. The biggest differences being that the Brother XM2701 offers more built-in stitches, an automatic needle threader, and a 1-step buttonhole. Considering the great reviews on Amazon and the fact the price is fairly close to the Brother XM1010, I would choose the Brother XM2701 over the XM1010.

The Brother XR3774 is another full-featured sewing machine perfect for beginners. Keeping in step with the Brother XM2701, it too features an automatic needle threader, a 1-step buttonhole, and a drop-in bobbin system. What makes this machine stand apart from the previous two is that it offers more built-in stitches, including quilting stitches. This machine also includes a wide table for large scale projects such as quilts. Plus it comes with plenty of accessories, such as 8 sewing feet. Considering the affordable pricing and great reviews on Amazon, I would purchase this machine over the Brother XM2701 if I had to choose between the two.

The Brother Project Runway CS5055PRW is one of the two computerized Brother sewing machines that I compare and review. This ultra-light and portable machine has outstanding features such as a quick-set drop-in bobbin system, an automatic needle threader, five 1-step custom-sized buttonholes, an easy-view LCD display screen, easy bobbin winding, a drop feed for free-motion quilting, and a super bright work area. It also uses a 7-point feed dog system that works well on heavy-duty fabrics such as tweed and denim. The Brother Project Runway CS5055PRW is very affordable and is my top pick out of all the sewing machines for the best sewing machine for kids.

The Brother CS6000i sewing machine is very comparable to the Brother Project Runway CS5055PRW, having all the automatic features you would come to expect. Yet it has more advanced features that your child can grow with over time. For example, it has a stop/start button that allows the user to sew without the foot control. Plus it has a stitch speed feature that gives control over how fast or slow you want to sew independently of the foot pedal. The Brother CS6000i also comes with an oversized table for larger projects such as quilts. And as a bonus, a hard carry case comes included with your purchase. It’s the most expensive Brother sewing machine that I compare and review, however, it is still very reasonably priced. If money is not an issue, then this may be the perfect machine for your child.
